How I'm surviving the IB part 1

1) Owning  a dysfunctional iPhone

I was a pretty early user of the iPhone, I got it at the end of 2007 a while before the 3G version came out. It was jailbroken (I think that is the term - I'm a bit tech retarded and am just pretending to know) so it was compatible with my malaysian SIM. It relied on wireless internet to download apps and things so I had all the typical apps, games, messenger... uh, periodic table etc. However sometime last year I ran the software update on iTunes and therefore re-locked my phone. (In the presence of Tasha Chan, who now has a better iPhone than me) I then payed 5 quid to a guy in Chinatown to make it work-able again however I soon realized that I cant download apps with iTunes or anything anymore because it doesnt seem to recognize the device as an orginal iPhone and I couldnt use an iTunes account with it or anything.

So up til today, I am the owner of phone which looks like an iphone on the outside (even got it a sillicon case) and still draws the "Cool you have an iPhone? what apps do you have?" from people who want to fiddle with it. However I disappoint most of the time because I have 2 games (I am not entirely apps free I have a crap version of Installer from which I downloaded 2 things). The first is the circle game and the second is the banana game. Int he banana game you shake your phone up and down to peel a banana on your screen. The game ends with the banana being peeled. Fun stuff right. So basically it has the functionality of a regular phone. Actually less, I cant cancel the sending of messages, and I make loads of typos.

On the plus side, I dont find myself playing scramble, other other games that take up loads of time. I dont check the weather over and over again, or my mail or facebook in public (which I would if I could), I dont use it to go on skype, or anything else that would distract other iPhone users. While you may think I'm only making myself feel better that my phone and lots of other devices seem to hate me (running joke for a few years now for some people - haha) its definitely a sign that without a functioning iPhone I'm going to ace the IB.

Going hommmeee

I'm off to the airport in less than 5 hours - which feels good because I havent been home in ages (since last summer). Most people find it odd that I can go for so long without seeing my family or being back in my house back home but to be honest 6 months didnt feel painfully long like what I thought it might. My family came over during the Christmas holidays which made the time away from them more bearable but that aside I guess its pretty nice having so many relatives nearby making this place not feel so foreign after all. Anthony has also been a huge part of being away from home, and because our school has abnormally long and very frequent holidays he's been seeing a lot of me over the last 2 terms. Half terms, exeats and weekends just to give living in school a break - I'm sorry I wake up early all the time when you want a lie in and I'm sorry for falling asleep and showing no interest while you play on your xbox.

Don't get me wrong I love boarding. You learn so much about each other (sometimes too much) and I'm surprised at how much you can get to know your friends over two years by living with them everyday.

I decided it was about time this picture came out. I decided not to include it on the GIH Leaver's presentation but I laugh everytime I see it, and it makes me appreciate more how we have completely lost the whole polite and appropriate act we have going with other people. I know I probably wouldnt see some of you again, but the thought feels so different from when I left school before this. Having both experienced being a normal day student and then boarding the last 2 years I think leaving the boarding house and the people in it is so much harder than leaving school normally like I've done before.

(for those of you still curious about the first picture above, use this one as your guideline to narrow down who it could be. Too short to be Chiugo I'd say. And FK is definitely more sensible than that) =P

As much as I'm going to enjoy being away for 3 weeks there are loads to look forward to when coming back (for the last time!). "Last day in uniform" as the staff would like to call it, our night out to the Woodman something which is what GIH does to celebrate the end of formal school. English pub in the middle of nowhere (isolated and we're going by minivan to prevent people from bailing off to somewhere more fun). Mrs Haworth guarentees its an awesome place though so we shall see. And of course, exams which are slightly a week after we get back. We're meant to be preparing for them this holiday.

Have a nice Easter everyone (:

Long Awaited Update

A bit late in the day, but Happy New Year and Happy Valentines Day everyone. Supposedly significant seeing how today's only been the 3rd time in a very long time (cant remember how long) that Valentine's day and Chinese New Year fell on the same day. However seeing how I spent most of my day in PJs staring at my work (and watching true blood and other bad shows - haha) I guess today was no big deal. The usual new year's events took place at home, my brothers served my parents tea in the morning without me, vegetarian breakfast at my grandma's, lunch at my other grandma's and.. other formalities.

 IMG_0636
Thats me serving my parents tea two years ago (I have since gotten 16 shades lighter, bleh..). Usually the most awkward bit of New years - not in a bad way... but you know, you always end up saying the same things phrased differently every year (or perhaps not recently because they have started forgetting) And the whole role reversal thing because my mum normally serves us (: Anyway because Im not home this year and because I know you both stalk me on my blog though I rarely update, Happy New Year, may this year bring good health, happiness and prosperity. Please take me home soon.

Over here things arent being celebrated in a big way. Bigger hype about Valentine's day - school carnations, stores selling heart-themed merchandise etchave been trying to keep an optimistic view about our mocks which begin on Monday. Im sure this week is the week everything changes for the better, especially in the last 5 days when Im staying with my boyfriend for joint revision sessions. Haha Im joking - my relatives who I normally stay with are going home to Malaysia. I dont reaaaallly want to stay with Anthony. Worry not mother and father (if you're still reading this) I have plenty of self discipline and determination. Remember that time Wanru and I built the Eiffel Tower out of toothpicks? I'll be fine.

Hmm what else have I been doing. Oh making my GIH yearbook page.
yearbook
Ta-daa! behold my picture arranging skills. I tried to get everyone onto my page - even inspiring Krithika to do the same! We each get two pages and the other page is for the other people in the house to write something nice on. Things like.."Ill miss you, all the best in everything you do!". Kididng. Dont write that on my page.

Okay my time set aside for updating this thing has elapsed. I'll update soon (:

Happy New Year

Happy New Year everyone!

Saw in the new year away from home for the first time, so I broke the tradition of being at the Curve for new years which was where I was for the past 3 or 4 years. No rooftops and foam spray this year but new years eve was interesting none the less. Got a little messed up later in the night, but this is because Jon London applied for philosophy and maths and not philosophy and music at university. He claims anyway in his New Years Eve state of mind.

Been on Christmas break for slightly over two weeks but couldnt go to Paris because of Eurostar hold ups in the channel tunnel. Bit of a bummer seeing how we spent nearly a whole day at Ebbsfleet where theres no heating excpet in the toilets so passengers took turns going into the toilets to lean against the radiator. Well I did anyway (: Spent the rest of the time with my family in a hotel near hyde park where we looked at some london attractions including the Imperial war museum (yay) and tate modern (yayy!) and spent good quality family time together.

2009 went by really quickly, was my first proper year away from home, having spend more months away from home than back there. Started the year with lots of snow in february and ended it also with lots of snow in December. Wasnt so fun the second time round though. Had lots of work in between, coursework and uni apps - unfortunately I have carried forward some of the undone work into the new year. Well we shall see if things work out differently this year. Hopefully I'll learn to sort myself out to make the IB exams in May not so painful. I also turned 18 in 2009 which was exciting - but not really since the only time Ive been asked to produce ID was on new years eve but I only had my malaysian IC with me, and who knows why our birth dates arent stated on it but I had to explain how the IC number works, and my first 6 digits are 911201 which sorts of translates to 1/12/91 but in the end the lady gave up and all was good.

Meanwhile, I am off skiing next week with Anthony et. al. to Italy where I will put my skiing skills to the test. Slightly worrying.
