Spent the weekend at Gem Island. Well thats really the name of the resort, its the island is Pulau Gemia. Couldnt get rooms at Perhentian, but this islands a pretty decent alternative. Not that far from the mainland, but the waters clean, and the rooms are good. Rather quiet place, only 30ish rooms. Not designed for families with children because other than the beach and chalets, there's nothing to do. Most of the people there were couples, ideal for that sort of thing.
They have a sea turtle sanctuary. They collect turtle eggs from the beach and put them in hatcheries in the resort and this pool is where theyre kept before being released. Lets them grow a little, because baby turtles die easily and they have a pathetic survival rate (1 or 2 in every 1000)
Snorkelling was alright, we could do it pretty close to shore but the corals were more or less uniform (the brown and green kinds). Lots of fish though, though mostly in schools of the same kind. Preferred Sabah. Was quite strange because it was just my parents and I this time and usually when my dad naps and my mum hangs about the chalet I'd have Gavin and Garey for company. This time I was on my own sometimes but it was a good holiday. (:
We flew into Terengganu where we took a boat from the jetty to the island. Theyre local rice dish, part of their nasi padang stuff includes this rice and wad of fish delight. Haha, not for non fish eaters.
Havent been doing much since I got back. Lunch with wanru today, got honked at trying to sort out the pimple on her back on the way home from Bangsar. Exciting (: |
